China has developed the world’s fastest quantum computer, which is ten million times faster than Google’s.
China’s ability to outpace other countries in terms of technological advancement is well recognized. Chinese researchers claim to have created the world’s fastest programmable quantum computers.
The “Zuchongzhi 2.1” a quantum computing system, built by computer scientists at the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC), under the direction of Pan Jianwei, is at least a million times more effective than its closest rival (Google Sycamore).
Quantum computers that are the fastest in the world
Zuchongzhi 2.1, named for a 5th-century mathematician, is 10 million times quicker than Google’s Sycamore quantum computing machine.
According to a separate study released in the Physical Review-Journal on Monday, the “Jiuzhang 2” quantum computer constructed by Chinese scientists can do computations at least 10 billion times greater than Google Sycamore, the world’s fastest supercomputer (Quantum Computer) at present.
Quantum computers are super-advanced computers that go beyond binary codes of 1s and 0s that are normally stored in ordinary computers in the simplest unit of information known as “bit.”
These modern quantum computers make use of the unique features of the universe’s smallest particles, which can exist in a variety of states, including 1s and 0s, as in regular computers, or anywhere in between.
Quantum particles, often known as “qubits” or “quantum bits,” are extremely adaptable. According to the researchers, quantum computers can perform these qubits all at the same time.
Quantum Computers : the greater the number, the better
Two technologies have been developed by Chinese researchers to maximize the value of quantum computing. Light-based photonic quantum computers are one of the methods. The other option is to use superconducting quantum computers, which can only operate at extremely low temperatures.
In the first type, mirrors, phase shifters, and beam splitters were used to manage light’s energy units, known as photons. In the second type of quantum computer arrangement, an electromagnetic field is used to manipulate the state of qubits.
It is said that supercomputers, in the near future, may not be able to replace the ordinary type of computers. For shorter periods of time, these computers do specific sophisticated calculations.
