India’s former president and one of the nation’s most revered politicians, Dr. Pranab Mukherjee, 84, died on Monday. Pranab Kumar Mukherjee was an Indian politician who served as India’s thirteenth President from 2012 to 2017. Mukherjee was a senior representative of the Indian National Congress and held many ministerial positions in the Indian government throughout his five-decade political career.
On August 10, Mukherjee collapsed at his Rajaji Marg residence and underwent surgery to clear a blood clot in his head. Doctors warned him on Monday morning that his health had deteriorated and that he was in septic shock due to a respiratory infection. Abhijit Mukherjee, his son, tweeted shortly after, requesting that people pray for his father. “He is a warrior, and for all of your prayers and good wishes, he will undoubtedly recover!” Abhijit Mukherjee tweeted on social media.
Due to a lung infection, Dr. Mukherjee was in “septic shock” and was being cared for by a team of medical specialists. He was in a coma and needed to be kept alive with the aid of a ventilator. On August 10, 84-year-old Dr. Mukherjee was taken to the Cantonment Hospital in New Delhi. After undergoing surgery to remove a clot in his brain, he was into a coma. He was also tested positive for novel coronavirus infection, where some medical experts claimed this to be a strong reason for his critical illness.
