As per The Balochistan Post, at least six Chinese engineers died in a major blast in Pakistan’s port city of Gwadar. According to the report, the blast targeted a motorcade of Chinese engineers near the building site of a route that is part of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
According to a representative for the provincial government, the bomb killed, six Chinese engineers, two children and wounded three others, including the driver of the car.
“We strongly condemn the suicide attack on a vehicle carrying Chinese engineers in Gwadar. Two children were killed while playing nearby, and one Chinese was injured” Liaquat Shahwani, the Balochistan government’s spokesperson, tweeted.
The blast occurred around a month after a bus transporting employees was assaulted in the province of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, killing six Chinese engineers and injuring four more. Initially, Pakistan stated the incident was caused by a mechanical breakdown that resulted in a gas leak. The Chinese side, on the other hand, said the bus was hit by a bomb.
Pakistan also made a U-turn, blaming “terrorists” who purportedly assaulted the bus on Indian and Afghan intelligence agencies. According to the media, the Indian External Affairs Ministry dismissed the charges as “absurd statements.”
“This is just another move by Pakistan to demonise India in order to divert global attention away from its involvement as the epicentre of destabilisation and a safe haven for blacklisted terrorists,” said Arindam Bagchi, a representative for the Indian external affairs ministry.
